KazTransGas awarded by the EBRD Gold Award for Sustainable Development
At the last meeting of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the winners of the annual Sustainable Development Award were awarded.
This year, twenty-one EBRD clients received recognition for their outstanding contribution to ensuring environmental and social sustainability. The golden award for achievements in timely reduction of carbon dioxide emissions was presented to the National Gas Operator of the Republic of Kazakhstan, KazTransGas JSC.
Sustainable development is at the heart of the EBRD activities and honorary awards are awarded annually to partner companies that are committed to ensuring sustainability in their work.
As KazTransGas JSC commented, the company is the main supplier of gas to the domestic market of the Republic of Kazakhstan and provides more than half of the country’s population with commercial gas. Therefore, the solution of environmental and social issues is a priority in the work of the national operator. The company makes every effort to ensure stable development towards a low-carbon future.
The cooperation of KazTransGas JSC with the EBRD began in 2016, when the bank financed investment for gasification projects, construction and modernization of the gas infrastructure of the subsidiary companies Intergas Central Asia JSC and KazTransGas Aimak JSC.
In cooperation with the EBRD, the reconstruction of the underground gas storage facility “Bozoy” was completed, which allowed to increase the volume of gas supplies to the southern regions of Kazakhstan and significantly reduce emissions in two major cities – Almaty and Shymkent.
As part of the implementation of investment projects in the Mangystau region, 104 km of gas pipelines were built and 533 km of gas pipelines were modernized, 28 gas control points, 17 cabinet gas regulators were replaced and installed, 4 automatic gas distribution stations were installed.
The construction of a new Automatic gas distribution station AGDS-300 with a capacity of 300 thousand cubic meters per hour, which is currently the most powerful in the Republic of Kazakhstan, has been partially financed in the Aktobe region.
4 villages and the city of Rudnyi have been gasified in the Kostanay region, 35.6 km of new gas pipelines have been built, 7 gas control points and 2 cabinet gas regulators have been installed. The construction of a high – pressure gas pipeline from the village of Tobol to the village of Auliekol with a length of 132 km with the installation of an automatic gas distribution station with a capacity of 30 thousand cubic meters per hour was partially financed.
On behalf of KazTransGas JSC, gratitude was expressed to the EBRD for the exchange of experience and support in the development of a program to reduce uncontrolled methane emissions and the intensity of carbon emissions. The implementation of this project will be a significant contribution and one of the key components for achieving carbon neutrality in Kazakhstan by 2060.
